Hawker Hunter FGA 9 – Part Three – Two Day

Confused yet? Sit beside me at the club and prepare yourself…

The second day work on the Hunter was paint; undercoat, masking, colour coats. The scheme has a hard delineation between lower and upper but soft lines on the top.

The silver is Mr Color Duralumium thinned with new GGX rapid thinner. This is to allow a moderate time for setting and no mixture of colour with undercoat.

The undercoat is again Mr Hobby but this time I chose 1500 -grade rather than the normal 100-grade. This Airfix kit has a fine surface polish from the mould and it would be a shame to rough it up unnecessarily. Some of the kits from eastern Europe or Turkey are just the other way and you are going to need 1000 or even 750 to cover their rough plastic.

The putty worms and liquid mask between the upper colours are a standard procedure now, but I remembered to take a picture of he underside to show how I anchor off the ends of the putty worms as I mask. It prevents any untoward sagging or detachment before the paint goes on.

I must say that the shape of the Hunter in the putty worms makes it look like something out of a Louisiana swamp…
