Hawker Hunter FGA 9 – Part Four – Clearing The Air

Or ” Glossing Over All Problems “.

Hey, it works for federal politicians – it should work for me. However, it can sometimes be harder to do than you’d think.

I have invested in more types of varnish than you’ve had hot dinners. From bottles of clear lacquer to gloss coats in alcohol solution to industrial acrylic lacquer…with a side venture into floor polish….I have been a sucker for every form of glossing agent.

Some of them have been successful – some of the time – on some models. Note the ” some ‘ in there – what has been lacking is consistency. one spray one day will be perfect and the same procedure another time will ruin the model entirely. Indeed, one of the only times I have binned a kit ws over the glossing spray at the end.

To be fair to the maker of the varnish, it was my fault for spraying it too thickly in the wrong temperature and humidity. have learned to heat the spray, wait for a dry day, and do the thing in light coats. And pray.

What I want is a screaming high gloss, perfect in every way. the Hunter is yet another test-bed …in this case for a Mr Color gloss finishing spray that seems to have done the trick beautifully. It is much more expensive than any of the alternatives but I may just bear the cost in the future for this vital step. The Hunter has a number of decals that will need to hit a gloss surface.
