A phrase I would recommend to many when they go to an exhibition.
I have attended an annual show and taken my own advice. I gritted my teeth at the price of parking on the grounds and for the door ticket. I noted with dismay the closure of half of the space used for other shows. And I greeted sights seen before with a resigned nostalgia.
There were some new things and some good things, but the things that were new were not good and the good things were not new. I was going to be satisfied with the thought that at least the roof did not leak, but there were two buckets of rainwater in the middle of the floor…
I got what I went for and, possibly, deserved…but not, perhaps, what I paid for. I shall nevertheless wring five video shows out of what was there, and be honest and complementary where I can.
And like a smallpox inoculation, I need never do it again.
