Airfix Auster – Part Three – 13 Aleph Ready For The Sun

This started as an iced Antarctic confection, but the Auster has turned out a baked desert dessert.

At least it will be – there is a real 13-Aleph in the Hatzerim Air Force Museum under cover, but this 13 will be sitting out all day in the sun. Hence the staff have dropped a tarp over the extensive upper windows until they can get around to applying the light blue sealing film to the cabin.

It is a battle to just get the wing paint to stay on in the desert, and there are going to be precious few old Auster windows to replace these if they get sun-damaged.

Critics of old Airfix can fasten upon all the flaws of this kit, but until another replacement comes along at under $ 20, this will do very nicely. It came with skis and floats and the latter look just as good as anything for a Canadian lake. An extensive internet search will be undertaken ( as much as that flawed resource will permit ) to see what civilian Taylorcraft on floats were painted like.
