VVS Tupolev SB2 – Part One – The Soviet Volunteer

May not be worth ten pressed men, but I am not fussy…

This Novo model of a Tupolev SB-2 is the second one I’ve essayed to build – the first was a gift from my daughter – found at Leonardo’s secondhand model shop in Tokyo just before Covid hit.

I built it as a Spanish Republican plane. I was impressed with the complexity of the the kit but found the decals anaemic. This version will be built as a VVS bomber in the Finnish War with the ski landing gear. I have no idea whether the colour call-out on the box is accurate for the period, but the internet and better artists will probably determine it.

The kit – a gift from the club committee – is an old FROG mould under Soviet control. As I still have spare parts from the first build I am in no fear re. the landing gear. There are already two other Soviet planes of the period on skis in the collection so this should make for a good diorama.

The decals will be consigned and fresh ones found in the spares box.
