Bristol Mk32 Superfreighter – Part One – The Prize Of the Weekend

Remember the Newcastle song; never let a chance go by. This was my big chance at the model stash sale.

I knew the box instantly in the stack, and the price was very low. I’d the money out before anyone else had the chance to think, and I’m always wise about stash sales – I make sure I have small notes and change so that sales flow quickly.

I was thinking to build this as a cross-Channel air freighter with a 1959 Vauxhall being loaded in the open doors. My wife remembers travelling to France that way when she lived in the UK.

Then I opened the box and realised that the previous owner had bought after-market for it – a set of front doors with a clear window and a tiny radar nose. There was also a replacement tail on the vac-form sheet to make it into an RCAF aircraft.

A little googling later and I was amazed to see an image of an RCAF Sabre fuselage being unloaded from the front of one of the aircraft in the 1950’s.

I cannot decide which version to build – I am adrift on a sea of desire. It may become my kit of the year.
