I saw a very clever use of a DIY material that has fired me up to try it myself…but I don’t know what for…yet.
John Brewer followed my workshop on scale model photography and the small tabletop studio by constructing one for himself and bringing it to the clubrooms. We experimented with his Minolta digital camera to get the white balance and see which lens would be best.
It turns out he has a very good one in a 30mm Rokkor macro. It has a good manual focus down to a very close distance and is very sharp. All he needs to do is get good light on his scale models and they should come out superbly.
He used white plastic Corflute from Bunnings to construct the set, cementing it with a special adhesive. It looks sturdier than the foam board I was using and perhaps is somewhat lighter.
This has inspired me to nip down to Bunnings with my gift card later this week and see what sizes sheets of the stuff come in…and whether they would be expensive. It looks like an ideal material for a number of hobby tasks.
