CAC Winjeel – Part Four – FTS 1

Point Cook, Victoria.

SOOTB rendition of this Winjeel and I don’t think I could be happier with the result. It will form the starting point of a number of RAAF training types – with the occasional side-excursion to an aerobatics team aircraft or the FAC service livery as used on ADF exercises.

You have to be as careful with the various Day-Glo and orange shades as you do with yellows – the paint makers, model makers, and air forces seem to have different ideas of hue and specularity. I have at least four yellows, four more oranges, and as many reds. I look for the most accurate information and then resort to the internet for a picture of the selected colour. Even here the net can be well off the mark.

I depend upon my photographer’s eye to tell me whether the rest of a scene is close to accurate, and then rack back to the shade in question. I am afraid I have as many Wrong Oranges as I do Wrong Greens. People who just sit at the edge of the wharf fishing never have these problems…

Apparently these aircraft are still in use by aero clubs and enthusiasts so I will be searching for examples to save for the next time I meet this kit.

Well done, High Planes. Well done!
