Junkers 52 – Part Three – The Sprues Goose

Okay, that was a bad aviation pun. I’m not ashamed of it, though, as the contents of the Italeri kit have braced me up immensely.

This is the sort of modelling I like to do – just the level of detail that supports 1:72 scale without going too far either way. Of course there are going to be extra parts, and as far as they are of a general nature I think it is all to the good.

The sight of the multiple seats is a bit daunting, but as this is a passenger aircraft, it is better to have them ready-made than have to confront a bare cabin floor and try to think up some way of duplicating them cheaply.

Bless the Germans for the rectangular windows – this means they can be effectively masked before being inserted into the fuselage and then uncovered later.

Note the air crew are gems – far better than the older Airfix offerings. I shall place one in the cockpit but save the other two for future projects.

Note also the sturdy main landing gear struts. My bugbear with some 1:72 kit is the flimsy nature of  these components and their predeliction for bending or snapping.

I am already hoping for a set of Preiser unpainted figures in HO so that I can populate more of the Air World museum and possibly some of the passenger flights.
