The second week of being in the hangar with my right wheel off is just finishing – though I am happy to say that I am not having antibiotics flushed through the hydraulic lines this week. You have no idea how awkward it is to go to the can when you have to drag a drip stand with you.
This second week has been spent in an armchair looking at the iPad. Phil Flory is now one of my favourite people in the world, and has probably saved me from future disasters. I cannot wait to be mobile enough to put into practice some of the things he has mentioned in his tutorials and live shows. He will probably cost me money, if I can scare it up, for new airbrush accessories – he will save me money by making a number of my current practices unnecessary.
Hangar time also means I get to set my ducks out in a row as far as what I want to build. You can get too involved with complex plans when you are whirling around the town to the shops. And when you find that your stash of projects far exceeds your reasonable time to do them, something suffers. This week has allowed me to make a list of what I want to do in a sensible order – and it has suggested ways to accomplish more with the resources I have now.
Note: One idea that occurred to me will need what I don’t have – mobility. I need to visit one model shop in our city for a specific purpose – a class of product that I suspect it has. And I then need to seek out a local person who can help me with that product – And I think I know just the man. He’s an unrecognised asset.
So it is not all bad, though I would not recommend cellulitis as a vacation. Every modeller – every hobbyist – should be eternally grateful for the chances we get to get up and do. And for a legitimate and innocent occupation to which we can turn to when we are up on the blocks.
