Bell Model 47 – Part Three – The Bubble

Well, that was a surprise.

I opened the Italeri box one morning at the modelling club and the helicopter landed, finished, on my studio table at 4:30 PM next day. And there was time in between working on it to put the camouflage colours on the CH-147 Chinook.

I’ve no idea what this indicates in my character – indeed I was unaware that I had one – but I put it down to the shift to solvent-based acrylic paints. The Mr Color and Tamiya lacquer-based paints are going on very smoothly and with the warm Perth weather are drying at a rapid pace.

The Model 47 is really self-explanatory as far as airframe goes – the engine drives the main rotor directly and the tail rotor through a shaft off-take. The pilot sits there with a stick, rudder pedals, and a pitch control and the only cargo he has is strapped in beside him cringing away from the perspex window.

He’s undoubtedly subject to all the winds that God ends and would be wise to stay grounded in any but the lightest ones. Even then, I should tie the thing to a tractor if it was going to be left out on the tarmac overnight.

I think it is delightful…but I don’t want a second ride in one…
