Aim For Perfection – Strive For Excellence

Accept Good Results.

If this was a social media site instead of a column I could post those memes for days along with kitten and sunset pictures. Of course I’d get trolled something fierce, but the statistics would probably improve.

As it is I have adjusted my sights down to strive for excellence and accept anything that doesn’t actually cause bleeding. Anything lower would eventually affect my iron/ haemoglobin ratio.

Assembly work risks distortion and breakage. Any filling risks visible flaws. Any paint work risks the dissolution of western civilisation and the reign of chaos. Two weeks ago was no different. The first few coats of paint went well – bar a minor leak or two along a scribed panel line. I think I know how to avoid this in future but it’ll mean a bit me experimenting.

However, the masking tape problem surfaced – the days seem to have been warm enough to cause some of the tape to deposit gum on paint surfaces. Fortunately further coats of gloss varnish disguised this but it points up the need for a better solution – warm weather is a fact of life here and it’s just going to recur.

Window masking seems to have been very successful, This is using the new Mr. Mask Neo. Admittedly the window shapes were simple but the results are clean. Paying for mask sets would also do the trick but the blue rubber solution adapts to any job at hand.

In the case of this job I went back to aqueous acrylic paints  – I had the exact shades needed and did not want to be buying more lacquer until the aqueous is gone. As it is, I don’t think I will be able to completely switch over to the solvent types – the two makers I favour have missed out on some colours that are commonly needed and I’ll just have to use the aqueous ones for that. I’ve no idea what prompts them to add new paints to their ranges. It would be nice to think that they can be influenced by their customers.
