An internet group that I once enjoyed featured die-cast model cars and planes as seen through the lenses of the collectors – some of the photos taken were quite dramatic and artistic. I participated for quite a while until I noted that there were some rather odd restrictions being placed upon the participants. Unless one received an especial dispensation for being a long-time member you were not allowed to post photographs of models or dioramas where the scale of the vehicles was 1:64 or less…
This removed all the HO and OO trains and vehicles, 1:200 and 1:400 aircraft and their airports, and the entire range of Greenlight and Mattel Hot Wheels cars from view. I can only assume that the organisers of the site found it beneath their dignity to look at smaller models. Selective dignity makes me nervous, so I now post my airfields, Hot Rod Honeys, and other Little World productions to a different – more tolerant – group.
The Model Car Spectacular here in Perth was a model of dignity. Somber men in white tie and tails glided noiselessly through the school hall. Strains of Bach concerti played throughout the day. On every side philosophy and art were discussed. And they did have Mattel Hot Wheels cars – both for sale and exhibited as the basic seed for marvellous hot rod creations. No-one was excluded.
Herewith some table shots of the imagination of a master…in 1:64 scale:

A perfect example of the triumph of vision and art – as well as craftsmanship – with what others judge as a humble start. Good thing no-one told this model hot rodder that you couldn’t do it…
More to come.
