Rain, Rain, Go Away

Come again after I have sprayed  the clear lacquer.

I have been glaring at the sky all day for the temerity it has shown in clouding over and raining. This is not convenient, and I demand that it stop. If not, there will be trouble.

Actually, I have been avoiding trouble all day. The seven planes that I am building at present are all at a stage where they need a clear gloss coat to prepare for decals. I’ve got the clear stuff mixed and bottled, but the temperature has dropped and the humidity has risen, and al the internet advisers warn me that spraying now will risk a cloudy appearance in the acrylic lacquer. I have ruined projects before at this stage and am cautious…so i wait for the net few days until the rain goes away and the temperature rises.

We’re lucky in Perth, Western Australia. We are a dry city on a dry continent for most of the year. The summer is fierce, but as soon as the temp drops of an evening you can spray what you like – it’ll dry with no problems. But winter is wet, and you exercise a bit of caution.

So I’ve spent the day painting canopies with a bow pen, propellor spinners with the airbrush, and repairing the top grey paint on the Spitfire Mk IX. But now it is a waiting game…and I am wondering if it is time to break out another stash item and wash it off. It does not do to have idle hands.
