The decals have gone on the RCN Banshee and it is ready for the display hall of Canadian service aircraft. The suspect upper grey is still on it and sealed in with varnish.

I am actually delighted with the thing – and it is rather a massive fighter compared with some of the Korean War types like the MiG 16 or F-86. I suspect this will also be the case as I move into later jets – everything gets larger for a while. The RCAF Starfighter will be a step down, but I’ll have to wait until I see a good set of decals for that one before I jump on a kit.

You may note that the air intakes still have their painting masks in place for the pictures. I assure you they were taken out before the plane was flown to Wet Dog Regional for storage at the museum.

The tip tanks are painted rather than decaled, but the rest of the rather elegant markings are off the transfer sheet. I’m really grateful that the RCN doesn’t follow the USN in the practice of stencilling everything everywhere as I find too many of the tiny ones a strain on the patience.

All in all, a fine exercise. I hope to find an RCN Avenger A/S aircraft in kit form one day as they have been done before. Then I’ll exercise my own judgement on the top grey.
