Douglas A-20 Havoc – Part Seven – The Work Of Art

Masking tape is one of the few artistic mediums overlooked in the catalogues of the famous galleries. Yet it is the chosen vehicle of expression for so many of us. And it is such  a transient thing – here one hour and stripped off and thrown in the trash the next. Truly a metaphor for our times…

The heading image is the Havoc with the neutral grey underside blocked off and waiting in line with the rest of the Air convoy planes for the Olive Drab topcoat. It is a blessing in that the demarcation line is a hard one and there is no camouflage pattern on the top.

It all went surprisingly well, considering I sprayed seven aircraft per colour in one hit. A giant jar of OD was mixed and thinned and all I had to do was pick the right day and lay it down. I must say the Mr. Color paints have been very forgiving and I’ve not had tip clogging in the 0.3 airbrush at all.

I am now bursting to try the same sort of painting with a single-action airbrush by the same company. It just keeps getting better.
