Heinkel He-70 F2 – Part Four – Respec’

I have gained a massive amount of respect for the ICM model making firm – the one who originated the mould for this Revell kit. The fit of the first components is quite superb. Not as definite as Tamiya, but precise enough to allow some serious structure to be built.

The actual cockpit of the Heinkel is one that will fool you – they’ve set the pilot’s seat to port, but that is really how it was.

There is very, very little in the way of gapping on the joints of the wing and fuselage.

The only serious point of contention will be the tail cone.

The wings are perfect on the upper side. glue and paint will be all that’s needed.

And speaking of perfect – those flaps and ailerons are the best fit I’ve seen for posable parts.

I can hardly wait to send it to the paint shop. Then off to Ess Bend Aviation to try to fix on some sort of landing gear. The Germans weren’t quite the bright sparks one might think when it came to retractable undercarts and the spindly construction here underlines it. I am a bit nervous but at least I can give it a try.
