B-17 – Part Two – What’s In The Box?

What’s in any kit box? Hopes and fears, mostly. Hopes that the kit is all there and not fractured or warped and fears that the mould may have deteriorated with time. The decals are an entirely separate class of anxiety…

In this case the sprues are nice clean Academy products, which may have been nice clean Hasegawa ones some time ago. I don’t care who sells to whom, as long as the one who sells to me makes a decent product.

Not as detailed or complex as the Airfix Fortress III model, but adequate. Clean dry fit between upper and lower wing components.

Paddle props and straight horizontal stabs  – this is correct for the ” F ” model.

Early props, engine cowlings, and horizontal tail components indicate that there was an earlier model fuselage for another model. A valuable clue that there will be another model to build.

Topeka tail position and two noses…

And even different bulkheads for that earlier B-17. Time to search the old kit register. Just enough bomb bay detail for that early one to make it interesting.
