Guys and gals…I do not do this for money.

I do not build model aircraft for money. Nor do I write about them for it, nor take photos of them for it.

I do not deny that I find money useful, and would like more of it to play around with, but I realise that would only be at the expense of time and anguish…and I hoard my time and fend off anguish as much as I decently can.

I do not want to give you $22 or $40 or $55 for more people to see the columns I write. I am satisfied with the exposure they have already, and with the reward of an occasional comment in my WordPress inbox. The people who look are knowledgeable and tuned into the art already.

Actually, it goes deeper than that. Your platform is marvellous and widespread and famous and all those good things…but it is also a conduit for some of the most irksome cranks I’ve seen in a long time. I have walled off many of the pests but I fear exposing myself to more would be inviting worse to flood into my computer. Sufficient unto the day is the inane chatter thereof…

I also note that many of the distractions and fripperies of the early days on your platform are gone. I see fewer invitations to childish games. Are they gone because they did not pay? Or did they pay too well, and became subjects for regulation?

Ah, well, it is time to go back to the workbench. Here is a model airplane for your trouble.
