We’ve just received official notification from the president and committee of our scale modelling club that the clubrooms will temporarily close. It’s in line with directions from the federal government to deal with the Wuhan Plague situation. It’s a blow to our happiness but may well bolster our health. The time frame is probably going to be several months so I have made a few proposals to myself :
- Stay home and not inflict myself or any contagion I may encounter upon other people. That’s what the medical profession and the government want.
- Build the stash. Build it as well as I can. I have piled up a number of kits that I wanted to do and now is the time to do them – one by one. The paint stocks are good, and where something is needed I might have to do a little blending and compounding myself. The hobby shop may stay open or not, but we’ll just play that by ear.
- Photograph the collection. I do that now, but many of the previous efforts did not have the benefit of the focus stacking technology. Since I am learning this slowly, it will be a good period to bring it to perfection.
- Post each day to the scale model club Facebook page. And encourage others to do so as well. Even people who are not confident with social media can get better and they might find that they have a talent for it.
- House the collection. Oh, it’s housed right now, but in bare shelves with no visual stimulus. Time to think up a theme for each division of the models and give them a suitable setting. This has the advantage of being a relatively inexpensive thing to do – it’s mostly paint and paper.
- Propose and encourage use of video connections between club members. I have Skype and Facetime on my iPad and there is probably something on this iMac computer that does the same. Time to build a visual network.
Not happy, Jan, but not discouraged. If I stay free of disease and keep those who I know in the same condition I shall be well content.
