I Can Quit Any Time I Want To…

Honest.*

But the success of the first diorama shelf trays being what it was, I decided to call past Officeworks, get some more A1 foam board, and then see what the hobby shop afforded in the way of decorations.

Luckily, there were new Faller fencing sets in stock. Expensive, but totally worth it for the precision look. I should not like to be a European HO train builder, however, as the prices of the larger kits and accessories is scandalous.

The shelf sets are slightly lower in two instances – there are fixed shelf spaces in parts of the IKEA Billy bookcase that cannot be altered. If you choose smaller aircraft to occupy them, the lower backdrop should not be detrimental. One of them is intended for the Fleet Air Arm planes – HMS INSIPID –  and has a water backdrop. The other is the first in the RAAF CUNOATH DOWNS Series and features typical WA bush with red laterite gravel and low scrub.

This idea now means that I have a new quest when out with the camera – I’ll be setting it up more often to take panoramas. This uses a revolving turntable on a tripod with careful levelling  and multiple shots. I can also do a more basic jpeg panoram by utilizing tghe digital camera’s automatic panorama mode.

Apart from the money dropped at Officeworks and Hobbytech, this has been an economic exercise. I’ve used up old fence ends, spare telegraph poles, and tree and lichen off-cuts. The skies finished up my water-based acrylic pots in blue and green, and the backdrops are printed on the last few sheets of A3+ paper from an exhibition pack. I expect I will succumb to buying a few more 1:76 vehicles when I get to the RAF COLDE WELLCOME and CORRIGAN AFB sets, but that would have happened anyway.

I need to find a Russian-speaking person to write signs in Cyrillic script for VVS Uzshitmi, but it will be a delicate matter…

Now…now to effectively make a seaplane and flying boat base for the coast of Canada; RCAF GLEET BAY. It will be tricky but I do have two clear sheets of artificial water with a blue underlay. It is time to experiment.

    1. Well, the diorama trays are going into the shelves as planned, and they results are good. I plan on doing seven more. But I can quit at any time…
