The Display Trays

The first batch of display trays has come out well. You remember I wrote about the breakages inherent with moving modes about a club showroom during maintenance. Well these trays are designed to reduce this for my models.

They are convenient digital paper sizes; A3+, A3, A4, and 5 x 7.  Did experiment with the 1:72 models and this should cope with things as small as a WW1 fighter plane all the way up to a Lancaster bomber. There should even be some space for a small figure or vehicle to act as a size reference

The bases are MDF board with oak strip glued around the edges – very inexpensive. The finish on the sides is surplus paint that would otherwise have dried in the bottle – and has been glossed up with an equally surplus clear acrylic.

Each tray will hold a piece of paper with suitable printed pattern – tarmac, ship deck, grass, etc, and a museum logo with name plate. This lining will stick to the tray using double-sided tape and the wheels of the model will also get a couple of sticky dots. These are readily removable when it comes time to change the display.

My forté is variety, not super detail or giant models – this way I can freely change the things every three weeks or so and give the clubrooms a fresh show. The trays can travel safely in my car with minimal handling.
