Miles Magister – Part One – Cute And Clean

Every so often you need to have a change from heavily-armed warplanes or state-of-the-art jets. You need something small and simple and bright. You need a trainer.

Of course the real things were all this and more and perfectly able to kill instructors and students who made mistakes…but that is not what I am intending at all. I’ve found a modern-day restoration of a late 30’s early 40’s Magister that is still flying and I’m going to pattern my build on that. It is pretty, and I need some pretty right now.

You get a good box when you buy an RS model – printed on the back to tempt you.

You also get a small PE fret and an extremely small celluloid sheet with windscreens and dashboards on it. It pays to open these small Czech kits carefully, as the parts can escape.

You also get one sprue tree – it’s everything on one, so just wash it and then start planning.

Note that there is quite a variety of marking or the Miles. I was initially tempted to make a Desert Air Force example, but the internet’s picture of the flying specimen won me over.

Note: There is a Miles machine of a larger sort in our local RAAF museum in good display nick. I must return when the place re-opens to stare at the details.
