Boeing KB29A – Part Five – The Sausage

The sausage is just about to close up.

The day has been spent in fettling the compartments into the fuselage and securing them with cement and PVA. The former is to get the initial location and the latter to make sure that this is maintained when the second half goes on. My aim is not to have to pressure clamp the thing – there is a lot of skin area to join.

The Academy/Hasegawa people were funny – they made the long flaps in two parts, and paved the way for them to be displayed deployed… but neglected to add any rib detail inside. This begs cementing them in closed position. But there is no support for this over most of the length of what is a considerable piece of plastic.

So I’ve added Plasticard blocks at three strategic locations in each wing before cementation – the last thing I want is for a flap to fall off in the air museum. The public liability ramifications would be horrendous.

Take a look at the crew’s compartment and most of the cockpit. Most of it is about to enter eternal darkness. I am glad I built it, though, as I now know what was in there.
