This Italeri Fokker F-27 Friendship kit sat on the Hobbytech 1:72 shelf for the better part of a year, along with a number of other modern jet models. The fact of the long wait for a buyer might argue that the kit is bad or the price is too high – yet neither of these assumptions is true. The kit price was very reasonable indeed and the contents of the box are rewarding in the extreme.

The moulding is very clean indeed and the fit of components flawless. There is a little sparsity in the main wheel wells, but the cockpit and passenger compartment look to be as detailed as one could ask for.

I am delighted with the opening cargo door and will pose it up on the tarmac.

The plane promises to be a tail sitter – indeed the instructions call for 5 g. of weight somewhere in the nose. I generally take that to mean considerably more. Fortunately the landing gear legs look extremely sturdy so I’m not worried about them.

The only cavil I have is the fact that the plane is decalled for airlines I don’t care about. I have devised my own scheme and will attempt to paint something that looks true to the 1960’s time period. A pity to waste good Cartograf material, but that is the thing with civil aviation.

The plan, Stan…
