I just thought – you may not have noticed that the newly-completed RCAF Cessna Crane has been painted yellow. They do that in case you are likely to stumble into it in a darkened hangar…

So I follow suit. I make up a mixture of Mr. Color lacquer – one full bottle of No. 109 and one of 113 poured into an empty Mr. Surfacer bottle. That’s one Character Yellow and one RLM 04 Yellow per batch. It cuts the orange down a bit on the Character Yellow and corresponds as closely as I can tell to real RCAF wartime trainer colour.

The plane sits high on its oleos – I suspect they were a bit enthusiastic there, but has responded well to the pre-shading procedure. In future, however, for yellow or white I will use a grey pre-shading as it will be easier to cover with these thin colours.

The spares box yielded a number of roundels and fin flashes and the Google research showed that the RCAF used quite a variety of them through the time…so any rivet counters can go away.

Now I am in hot pursuit of an Airspeed Oxford to add to the training group. I can find an AIrspeed Envoy but it is at a high price…I won’t resort to a diecast Oxford example until I exhaust all possibilities of a kit.
And the plane doesn’t need the winter shields – the engines are good enough.
