Kawanishi George – Part Three – George of the Jungle

Watch out for that tree!

The Kawanishi George is complete, after a week of delight. I have never spent $ 5.00 better, and that is truly all that came out of my pocket for this fighter.

Not a scrap of filler anywhere, scraped seams, and no weathering needed. It is a museum piece after all.

The pilot in the seat is Lt. Hayashi, apparently, of the 407th Squadron of the 343rd Naval Air Wing. Google says a pilot of this name handed in his rice bowl in April 1945, but I have no idea whether this is the same person. Another Hayashi listed survived.

I must say I am impressed with the fact that the guns an pitot tube have survived throughout the build to finish as originals on the completed plane. Many times this is not the case – Airfix attachments being notoriously easy to snap off. Fortunately I have small pieces of piano wire that can be fashioned into replacements and a mini-drillbit set that allows me to penetrate even the thinnest wing.

I shall look forward eagerly to any more Hasegawa or Academy kits that come my way. Few of them will arrive so cheaply, but I can hope.

    1. Thank you. But wait until you see what happened when a man dropped into the club selling models for $ 1.00. I’m building one now…
