The Sword model of the Curtiss dive bomber is one of the bargain bin purchases I made when a chap came to our club thinning out his stash. The whole thing in box was only $ 20…which made my previous purchase of an A-25 A Shrike from a retailer look pretty sick. The Shrike has a great deal more detail but in the end they’ll look pretty much alike.

The Sword kit is not flawless – I see a certain amount of burr and flash to deal with. And there are resin parts that will need pretty careful handling to detail up the cockpit walls. However it is well up to standard as far as general moulding so the rest is just modelling. I’m thankful for the moulded prop.

This is one that will get the box treatment to end up a 1945 plane from the USS SHANGRI-LA. I have several paint pots of that midnight blue colour to use.

Note that the canopy is a vac-form type. I love these as they can paint up so well – and the dark blue will block out the clear very well.
