Piper J3 – Part Two – Inky, Winky, and Dinky

I don’t think I would be able to build things in smaller scale than 1:72 unless they were of very big prototypes – the parts would be too small. As it is I curse the nonsense of PE and resin details. The heading image shows a pretty good result for the interior of the J3 but it took some mighty small fitting to get it there.

Those part holders started life as price tag holders for Olympus camera displays. When they were superseded I asked for them and have been using them as paint aids ever since. I’m even going to make up some more using weighted plaster forms for the bottom – they’re perfect for putting parts in front of a hot air register for quick drying.

But the real aid I want is from the chemists. I want someone to market a paint that is set by UV light like dental composites or cyanoacrylate resins. Brush it on, activate the light, done and you can go on to glue again straight away. Let’s face it, you can get two-part paints that set like epoxies when they go off – why not something light-activated?
