CAC Boomerang – Part Two – Wrong

Cicero famously said that any man may be wrong but only a fool persists in error. I wish to state now that I was wrong in my judgement of the Tasman Models Boomerang kit and wish to change my mind.

I thought it was going to prove an unbuildable thing – a mere box of parts that would never fit together. Have a look at the basic components on the sprue trees and you’ll see what I mean. Add to this the little plastic bag of disparate white metal bits and you can see where the dismay might come from…

But wait a minute – that wing is glued together from three ratty-looking pieces of plastic and it all actually works…And after an evening of cutting filing, and sanding, the basic structure is starting to emerge:

Those are not bad wing roots – as good as many mainline kits. Admittedly the tailplanes are without support, but I’ve coped with that before by pinning. And the two fuselage halves are gap-free when they are approximated.

There will be problem solving in the landing gear – but again that’s what nesting brass tubing and rod is for.

I’m going to Dremel some more in the cockpit area and attempt a tube frame in there. The canopies are clear enough to warrant a look-see.

This is shaping up to be a rewarding little build – let’s face it…I’ve had poorer fit from more expensive kits and gotten a good result.
