Are you organised enough? Or too much? Are people diving down side streets to avoid you when you ask them about organisation? Is it time for an intervention?
I ask this in the wake of a day spent organising my modelling boxes. Note the plural there – it indicates that we are, as Kinky Friedman might say, out past where the buses run…
I expect to do my model building to a schedule; every two weeks as a guest at a chap’s home, every week at our Tuesday men’s shed, and every day in my own little workshop. To do so needs kits, tools, paints, and solvents. And brushes – air and stick. I have found that while one good set of the above is fine, you must be prepared to pack it all up every week to take it elsewhere. This is a pain.
I progressed from one set of tools to two, and have now come to three. Kept in separate boxes with the kit of choice for each venue, it means that I can do what I was going to do without re-packing. The inevitable duplication has been achieved fairly painlessly by picking up inexpensive Ustar starter kits that contain a good selection of tools. Tamiya and Ustar supply refills and spares for the consumable bits and all I need to do is hive off the paints for any particular build into the model box and I’m ready to go.
I suppose real organisational luxury would be to pre-position entire modelling kits wherever I plan to be and just drive from place to place. I must stop thinking these things up…
