What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

I have been thinking about the Big Local Model Show that will be coming at the end of April. It excites me but I’m a little nervous.

It’s the question of whether it will get a chance to go ahead as planned. The rise of the new Omicron strain of the Wuhan Virus has frightened the state government into rescinding plans to open our state borders, and we are essentially still at Action Stations for the time being. I cannot see being stood down in a mere 90 days, politics aside.

Now we did have the last Big Local Model Show in the midst of a closed state, and very successful it was, too. But can this success continue if there are no entries and/or vendors from the eastern states? We are starving for some items here ( AK paints ) and would make the fortunes of the sellers should they appear with a stand full of goods – but they are unlikely to do so.

Our local sellers also need to be on the scene. Missing out because you can’t be bothered is not a really wise option because it suggests to the customers that they too can be equally blasé when it comes to attending your retail shop. People desire what they see and buy what they desire. No see – no buy. Not a clever shop strategy.

I’ve no concern about the contest entrants or the general displayers – they are always pretty prolific and ready to show their year’s production. I have a set of airfield vignettes to lay out myself.

In any case, we’ll know closer to the time. My displays are already done, and if they don’t get seen at the 2022 Big Local Model Show, they can go for library displays or onto my column site.
