Now Available In The Convenient Can

There’s an advantage to be had by sticking to one brand of paint – every bottle is somewhat related to every other bottle. You can generally apply something onto something else without a flash and a bang. You might have to wait until layer A dries completely before you apply layer B but most times they won’t curdle or smoke.

Further, if you keep the same colour in several forms, you can make repairs easily. I’ve just done that.

The basic colour sprayed was the 107 – Character White by Gunze Sangyo. I prefer it for most all-white aircraft – it’s clean and doesn’t appear yellow. I painted an Ilyishin IL-2 Sturmovik in winter camo with it. But I didn’t paint enough.

I’d neglected the sides of the fuselage down where the underside colour was to start. After trying to convince myself that it was alright ( that good old self-deception we all love ) I gave in to the truth and decided to add more. The spray gun would have been a pain, a brush even worse.

So I reached for a 107 rattle can. It got the bare patches and blended perfectly with the first coat. A bit wasteful in overspray but that was better than forever looking at something that wasn’t right.

I intend to keep 107 Character White and 92 Semi-Gloss Black in both can and jar form in the future – as well as Neutral Grey. That’s if we ever see a steady supply of Japanese paints.
