My resolve to build the Revell Fokker as if I was fourteen has foundered somewhat.
The basic paints did not go anywhere near being enough to make a good representation and the decal sheet was a nightmare. As I needed to ring in more paint I decided to reprint the decals too.
The novelty of the blank lozenge pattern is amusing, but unless you have Posca pens of the right colours, the business of filling in the white divisions would be impossible. So I opted for a 1:1 scan of the sheet and a couple of hours converting it to a colour version. The hues were taken from the clear internet image of a real D VII in a museum. After the pattern was coloured in, a trial print was run off on plain paper and checked for fit. Then the white decal paper was put in and away it went.
I know there are commercial examples of lozenge-pattern decal to be had, but you have to remember that we are on the edge of the world out here and novelties that Europe and North America can count on are rare as hen’s teeth here. Postage costs debar any frivolous purchases, so if it isn’t in the local Hobbyhell, you might as well make your version of it at home. After all, the Eastern European modellers did that for decades.
