Bristol Beaufort Mk I – Part Five – Engine Night

The hot weather returning compelled me to wait until after dark to do spray painting in my workshop, but this was no bad thing.

It meant the previous day’s cementation had a good time to set and would not be breaking loose unexpectedly.

Engine Night, and a lesson in careful attention to detail. Not that a 1:72 radial engine has all that much, but in the case of these Bristol engines they are handed, and the instruction sheets make note of the differing numbers for each side. It pays to read and obey.

There are Port/Starboard keys at the rear of the engine crankcases that correspond to apertures in the bulkheads of the nacelles – sufficiently different to need attention. Fortunately when you do comply with Airfix orders they drop into place and match the air intakes perfectly. The odd cowling support struts are also handed and need to be assembled P/S to appear correct.
