I have taken to an amusing game when I photograph dancers at their concerts or for portraits – when they ask me the cost of the finished files or videos I tell them about my model airplane hobby.

I ask them to pay their bill by purchasing a 1:72 scale model airplane kit that I can build. I don’t specify what type or maker – just the scale. They get to go to a hobby shop and select whatever takes their fancy. So far their decisions have been delightful; a P-61, a Tornado GR.1, a Fairy Swordfish float plane, and the Convair F-106 Delta Dart you see here.

It’s a Trumpeter kit – my first from this maker. I was very impressed with the quality of it on the sprue trees and the build as it progressed did not disappoint me. Every jolly part fit well, and there were enough options in the load-out to satisfy everyone. Of course, being an old resident of the very place where these monsters would have been used, I chose the Falcon and Genie option.

The build is SOOTB and very rewarding for it. It will be featured in one of my Cold War dioramas of an Alaskan air base. And I will diligently search for an F-89 and an F-102 to accompany it.

The dancer who supplied this was Alma Sarhan. If you ever see her listed on the bill at a dance show get a seat up front and be prepared to be dazzled.
