Fokker Eindecker – Part Two – Is This Thing Actually Lego?

You might be tempted to think so as you assemble it – the squareness and the simplicity.

Antony Fokker was a genius, no doubt – he could get the most out of the material available to him by seizing upon the simplest of forms. It apparently had a workable synchronising mechanism for the Spandau machine but wasn’t fitted with metal collars on the propeller arms.

The colour everyone refers to in the illustrations is plain linen, and the model paint makers have a number of hues that they say is correct. Really any light yellow or beige seems to be fine. I think mine is actually Mr Hobby rather than Mr Color, but it has been sprayed with levelling thinner anyway and the colour coat has gone down well. Kudos to Revell for the marked pattern of the ribs so well captured.

I enjoyed painting the engine, but was not prepared to go blind trying to suggest engine-turning on the metal cowling. The ever-changing pot of French Silver Grey was looking a bit greyer this week, but sprayed fine.
