And there I was, getting along so very well…and then winter set in.
I knew it was winter because the snow started drifting into the gaps between the wing roots and the fuselage on this Avis model. I was delighted, as it obscured the giant trenches that had appeared. But come spring, the ruse would have been discovered, so I brushed it out and thought some more.

The solution turned out to be strips of thin Plastic sheet cut and laid into the gaps with thin cement. Once hardened, a further swath of white putty could be smeared over the join. After this hardened out came the files and sandpaper. I knew there was some olde-tyme modelling in this kit…

I do not detest filling and sanding, but I do not welcome it either. If it needs be done I hope for definitive gaps rather than shallow depressions as the gaps are easier to see and deal with. The white Perfect Plastic Putty is good, but I find now that I use a more substantial one that cuts with lacquer thinner. It’s a longer wait for it to set, but a better surface to file, sand, and scribe.
