The Imperial March

Followed by the Democratic April and the Socialist May. The Big Local Scale Model Exhibition is coming to town. In Anarchist August this year.

There will be contests and contestants – exhibits and exhibitionists – sales and suckers. I hope to be one of the latter. I have money and a gullible nature and there is not reason I should not be imposed upon. I’m hoping for questionable tools sourced from the scrap piles of the world, unsaleable kits for outrageous prices, and accessory packs that cost more than the actual things they are modelled from. As a bonus I want to be ordered about haphazardly.

Well, we all take our pleasures where we can, even if they are painful and costly. As this is the basic premise of scale modelling we cheerfully pay good beer money for kits that only fit where they touch and paints that dry in the bottle but not on the model.

For myself, I plan to show a few models, take a few pictures, and buy a few kits. All of these activities will be on the cheap end of the scale – my country. My real hope is that there will be something new to see. I do my part – never showing the same models twice from year to year. My scale is small and there is little room in my hatchback car for transportation, but that is no bad thing. A few models shown well is better than a table full of things just thrown down.
