Or ” taking the piss out of someone with the hobby “…
I have been guilty of just this – with written articles in my web column and imaginative labels on some of my display models. So far no-one has exploded in rage, but I still have hopes.
But have I done so with any of the models themselves? Well, yes, I have. and I am going to do so again shortly. I will not be making “egg-planes ” or Japanese fetish figures, though I know people who do. I will not be making fantasy warriors with improbable shapes and weapons. There are quite a few of these at present being used in Ukraine and it just remains to be seen whether they are better in the real world than in Games Workshop.
Now, I am not alone with these ideas. I remember a display one year in the big local scale model exhibition at Cannington Central that featured a rampant turd that had erupted from a toilet and was threatening to take over the place. It was nonsense, of course, because it could hardly have overcome the entire committee, and order would eventually have prevailed.
Scale model humour is not a dish that is to all tastes, most particularly to that of the butts of the jokes; they can be expected to complain that it is offensive. Yet this sort of thing has been done before on a large scale – and the next club build I intend to start will be a case in point. It did exist – may exist still – and has been well documented. And the joke is still relevant.
