My faith in this old Smêr kit is being vindicated at every stage.
The paint came off – the parts came apart – and the reconstruction began.

The windows are still running on the original cementation, so they got masked for the internal re-spray. The FF company harkened to their pre-war colour with a very dark blue interior – and I have indulged to pilots with red leather seats. Morocco leather, too…

The 540T lost its guns – and I have plated over the dorsal and ventral turret positions. The nose turret was left out altogether and yes – that is a block of balsa wood super-glued to the nose. I shall sand and shape it to take a heavy sealer. It lives under a black topcoat anyway.

The landing gear legs and struts are from a Dornier 17 but as they are so close to the French model I really do not need to do anything to them. The nacelles attach firmly to the faired strut out of the fuselage so the geometry of this is nowhere near as difficult to establish as that of the big Farman.

Once I get this completed, I shall start looking out for a Horrible Heller Amiot 143 to feed my habit.
