The scale modeller who seeks love by looking in the wrong places – ie a scale model contest – will be particularly ill-served by AI.
The ordinary run of contest modelling is hard enough:
A. The business of conceiving a new model based upon the bias of the judges – analysing what they rewarded in previous years – is a complex task. HAL 2023 can do this in a trice, but will keep the information to itself.
B. Likewise, the business of working up a useful relationship to a contest judge – schmoozing and buying them drinks with little umbrellas – will be impossible with HAL 2023. It doesn’t drink.
C. Judgement of any model will be based upon putting it on a turntable, spinning it once for the lights and camera, and then letting HAL 2023 note everything. Then it can be removed and, if necessary, tossed in the trash. It has presented itself for Final Judgement and can make no appeal.
d. The winner? Whoever HAL 2023 says is the winner. The criteria entered into the circuit to start with are what determine the output judgement. Further discussion is unnecessary. The trophy ribbon can be printed automatically and sent in the post to the winner.
Note: the development of the Pat-On-The-Back robotic arm has been stopped. The prototype was able to pat, all right, but the target was set a bit low. The case comes up in a month…
