Finally I figure out a way to stop being clumsy.
I build a great many kits, and find that I like to keep busy in the various stages by doing sub assemblies and finishing them before they are added to the main airframe. It is much the same as was done with wartime factories and can make production really more efficient.
However, I am also troubled with losing parts. It is not sabotage by enemy agent – it is just me putting things down and then either sweeping them off the bench or forgetting where they are. I’ve tried various things; not cutting anything free from the sprue, putting the bits in plastic bags, putting the whole kit in an separate sealed box. I still lose things – recently it was one propeller from a twin-engine plane. I found it in the waste bin before I emptied it…
So with the Caproni I have decided to tack down every spare part I have worked on – in pairs if possible – and not to unstick it until it is ready to be cemented onto the plane. A piece of tape is cheap, and a lot less valuable than my peace of mind if I lose the parts.
