Soviet ZIS-5 – Part Three – Non-Rolling Chassis

You can say what you like about Tamiya paints – I swear by their Dark Iron for nearly all the chassis I make – tank, car, or truck. I’ve been under motor vehicles and I know what colour they are…

In this case the ZIS-5 truck ( made by the Ural factory, I surmise ) is not in military service so the underside can be as clean as normal roads might permit.

The most wonderful part of this Hobby Boss kit is what do don’t see: light under the tyres. All six of the rubber delights hit the ground at the same time. This is not the case with many lesser offerings in smaller scales – perhaps it is the size and weight that permit the thing to flex. In the case of this chassis, the toe-in and camber of the front wheels is fine – I do not have to hide the end result as I did with the old 1/24 Chrysler.

There seems a little warp to the fenders, but I shall try to take this out with heat and pressure. In any case, it is a Soviet truck and bent fenders may have been a standard feature from the factory.
