Renault R-35 – Part Four – Art Deco Armour

I cannot see the French armour colours in any other light than that of the 1920’s Art Deco movement.

They are straight out of a pattern book of the period. Whether they disguised the tanks is another thing, but I’m guessing not.

I have done a small bit of dirt-spray weathering on the hull at the track level, but will wait to do this until the rather complex pattern on the top is fully developed. It is a hard-edged pattern and has a black line between colour divisions. This would be fine except there are so many of them. I think the paint shop was given too much leeway…

At least this is a model that can be realistically brush-painted. I would not attempt it with an airbrush for any money – there is too much masking to do.

The final result will have a little oil washing and some dirt spray – but I am not going to dampen down the colours too much. I like beauty as much as the next person.
