You have to be Princess. It’s my game and I write the rules.
I think I have discovered where the concept of scale model exhibition committees was developed. Sort of like a Dungeons And Dragons game where reading the rules takes up most of the evening and eventually you just want a drink.
Perhaps there is a scale model show somewhere with the motto “ Just throw it on the table and go off to the stash sale ” but so far I’ve not discovered it. If it exists, it is run by a very happy cynic.
It is not just scale modellers. The R/C modellers are far worse…possibly because they invest far larger sums of money on their hobby. I watched a national championship for toy boats once and extrapolated that to a similar contest for toy airplanes. Neither produced fun, though they did give out trophies. The recipients were grim and prepared to argue.
Still, it was not as bad as the national championships for a rifle club I belonged to. That had teams from interstate that were in constant motion around the country, all experts, and all so close in skill to each other that the physical judging of their scores was fraught and miserable. They all shot for tin medals and mental sheep stations. I often hoped they would hit a foot…
One year, one did.
