The Temptation To Re-Stash

And just when they thought you were cleaning out the old one…

Many people I know go through a cycle where they alternately empty and replenish their stashes This conforms to the universal rule of physics that you can never have a completely full shelf nor a completely empty one. There must always be either a kit or a space.

If you have been recently Konto’d or minimalisted by the family, you may have been forced to draw down on the stocks somewhat. Kits have been built faster than they have been bought, and you may be seeing more of the cupboard sides than before. Do not panic. As soon as a new fad hits the public library or the afternoon TV channels, the pressure will be off.

Regard the incident with tolerance, if not amusement. You may have been forced to build something that has languished for years, and it may have been a lot more fun than you expected. it may have sparked a fresh interest in something, and now you can go out and bring home more kits of that subject.

You may have glugged through a lot of your old paints, and fresh supplies are needed. This is a bit of a problem if you always liked Model Master or Floquil, but take heart; there are adequate substitutes in the acrylic ranges. And you can always paint things with metallic pink from a Humbrol tinlet with a brush – that will never be denied you.

See if you would like to jump a scale, or a type. You can do so now, without qualms – your new scale is not clogging up the cupboard yet. And the other half may not recognise the fresh boxes.
