From what I read, the MiG 23 was a bit of a Soviet bust…nowhere near as successful as the previous MiG 21 on the world market.
Not my problem. This 1/144 model was kindly donated and looks like it will build up well. It has the swing-wing feature of the period, and in this case the internal design has incorporated a toothed cog system that allows the wings to swing in and out in geometric unison. It will be de-activated once the plane is headed for the plinth so that the ordnance can hang straight, but it is fun to play with at the dry-fit stage.

Usual fine moulding from Academy, and a clean decal sheet.
One concern is no provision for landing gear doors – this aircraft must be built with the gear attached and down. So that dictates the wing position. It’ll be high enough on the plinth to stay out of trouble and no nose weight needed.
