Or how to get over the hobby humps.
Modellers are camels – we all have humps. whether we are making plastic kits, model railway layouts or doll houses, we come to a point when it all seems too much. Our kit build is stretching out week after week as we fight the photo-etched brass – the model train layout wiring looks like a NASA project from the 1960’s, and no joint on the doll house kit actually fits.
Aside from the obvious advice to pull up our big modeller’s panties, stiffen our upper lips, and carry on regardless, there are some things that can actually help:
a. Get out and go to dinner and the movies. There is life beyond your hobby and you need to grasp at it to gain some perspective.
b. Set aside a half hour a day for a fortnight to do your hobby…and neither stint not exceed the time. The discipline will help enormously.
c. Finish one small thing. One. Paint it, set it aside, and look upon it with pride. Then go to the next small thing.
d. Clean the workshop. If you have been toiling in a pigsty, get the pig to help you.
