Every fortnight I repair to the Cambridge Library in Floreat for an afternoon of modelling, coffee, and chocolate biscuits.
As it is a public place there is no booze allowed, and I drive home clear-headed. Except if there has been a lot of cementing and painting. Fortunately 1/144 involves very little of either and the solvents are minimal.
The library are kind enough to dedicate a facilities room to various clubs, and when there are no students desperately swotting for exams, it is a very relaxed atmosphere. We guard the library tables with a heavy plastic cover and try to confine our splashing to regular cutting boards.
There isn’t much assembly in a 1/144 – the moulding was excellent and the whole went together on the table in the afternoon. Modern cements being so rapid drying, I could confidently close the fuselage around the working wings and it travelled home safely.

The club bag contains a little bit of everything that I need to build and all I need to do is check the solvent and thinner levels occasionally to be good to go. Big kits still need the giant plastic box, but little ones like this go in a Crumpler tote bag.
Note the portable light – a photographic item that has been repurposed brilliantly. It frees me from the need for a mains power socket.
